Uncertainty about how their retirement investment will perform.<\/p><p>From 1998 to 2008 the S&amp;P 500 generated a &#8211;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><u>1.40%<\/u><\/span> rate of return (a lost above three items needs to not go as planned and retirees will deal with the very real threat of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><u>r<\/u><u>unning out of money<\/u><\/span> in retirement.<\/p><p><u><span style=\"color: #818285;\">Two GIB tools<\/span><\/u>\u2014one is what\u2019s called a <span style=\"color: #818285;\"><u>single premium immediate annuity<\/u> <\/span>(SPIA). SPIA are immediate pay annuities that can be designed to pay an income every month no matter how long you live. These are tools for people in retirement who need income now.<\/p><p>For those who are not yet retired they can look to use what\u2019s called a<span style=\"color: #818285;\"> <u>Fixed Indexed Annuity<\/u><\/span> (FIA) to grow wealth prior to retirement and then turn on a guaranteed income every year for life.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #818285;\"><u>Guaranteed roll-up rate<\/u><\/span>\u2014one of the unique aspects of an FIA is that the product can guarantee that your money will grow at a predetermined rate of return prior to retirement. The guaranteed account value is then used to calculate the guaranteed income benefit for life payment (This account value is not one a client can cash in.
